The One Thing That Would Make Elections Better For Everyone

Are you sick of the onslaught of negative political ads that air on your TV every election season?

The fear-mongering. The half-truths.

Believe it or not, there’s a simple reform we can enact to make elections more bearable for voters.

It’s called ranked choice voting, or RCV, and it could change our politics for the better.

When you head to the ballot box under ranked choice voting, instead of voting for just one candidate, you have the option to rank candidates in order of preference: first, second, third and so on.

So if you’re stuck between two preferred candidates for a position, you can spread your preferences out in hopes that one of them wins.

Of all the 304 general elections that were held in the UK during the 1970s, these three election posters for the Conservative party are among the few campaign materials that are still extant. This is largely due to the fact that campaign slogans were more often compulsorily tattooed onto ailing citizens who collected welfare benefits.*

All promotional literature was designed and printed by the Scarfolk Advertising Agency, who, it was later revealed to the surprise of all clients concerned, had been working not only for the Conservative, but also the Labour and Liberal Parties.

Furthermore, the agency cleverly maximised its profits by selling exactly the same poster designs to all clients. Only the party name was changed. This made it difficult for voters to decide who to vote for, but it also confused politicians who became unsure which party they belonged to.

Offered a menu of issues to choose from as the most important in the May 21 election, Australia’s top economists have overwhelmingly zeroed in on one.

Three quarters of the 50 top economists surveyed by The Conversation and the Economic Society of Australia have nominated “climate and the environment” as the most important issue for the incoming government and the most important in the election.

The 74% who nominated climate and the environment is more than twice the proportion that nominated the four substantial runners up: housing availability and affordability, health, tax reform, and education.

Sick of Manchin and Sinema’s Power Trip? Watch This

Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema are on a power trip, but we can make them irrelevant after this year’s election.

Right now,  we have only 48 REAL Democrats in the Senate. Manchin and Sinema are Democrats in name only — and are allowing the filibuster to block the Democrats’ agenda.

They’re acting more like the king and queen of the Democrat’s agenda, deciding on their own to prevent critical measures from being enacted.

This One Thing Made Alex Jones Stop Lying

Alex Jones will have to pay millions to the parents of Sandy Hook victims.

Fox News might be on the hook for over a billion dollars after making bogus 2020 election claims.

It turns out there actually might be a way to stop the constant stream of lies coming from the right-wing media. How can we do it? Two words:

Sue. Them.

This won’t defeat the right’s media ecosystem overnight — but defamation law may prove to be one vital weapon in the battle against misinformation. Let me explain.

Organizing a Key Battleground State with New Georgia Project Action Fund

I recently had the pleasure of sitting down (virtually) with Nsé Ufot, CEO of the New Georgia Project Action Fund.

Nsé is an incredible organizer who describes her nonprofit as a “tech startup inside a civil rights and voting rights organization” that is making strides to build collective power for working people in Georgia.

I’m so pleased to be able to share with you this inspiring discussion about the on-the-ground fight for democracy in Georgia — and how we can build grassroots power across the country.
