Blame Donald Trump and all too many of his followers, but don’t just blame him or them. Yes, he was indeed responsible for the nightmare of January 6, 2021, and, in his own fashion, for the incitement of right-wing militia (terror!) groups like the Proud Boys. (“Stand back and stand by!”) But in this country, in this century, violence has become as all-American as apple pie. In these years, it’s been violence and more violence all the way, literally in the case of the Pentagon. But let me start a little more personally. Having lived several years in rural Maryland along the Virginia border, I’ve watched the local political landscape gain ever-deepening fault lines (as is true in the United... Read more

Lie-lie-lie-lie-lie-lie-lie So, okay, Donald Trump is not being booked the day of the GOP debate (AP): Former President Donald Trump says he will surrender to authorities in Georgia on Thursday to face charges in the case accusing him of illegally scheming to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state. “Can you believe it? I’ll be going to Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday to be ARRESTED,” Trump wrote on his social media network Monday night, hours after his bond was set at $200,000. This will be Trump’s fourth arrest since April. When defendants arrive at the building, they typically pass through a security checkpoint before checking in for formal booking in the lobby. During the booking process, defendants are typically photographed and fingerprinted and asked to provide certain personal information. Since Trump’s bond has already been set, he will be released from custody once the booking process is complete. Unlike in other jurisdictions, in Fulton County, arraignments — where a defendant first appears in court — are generally set after a defendant completes the booking process and do not happen on the same day.

Okay, sweetie, just stay calm and don’t panic. I SAID DON’T PANIC. You’re making me nervous.

Now, to do this the RIGHT way, we need a portable X-ray unit. Of course, your father always forgets the portable X-ray unit. He remembers the dog’s birthday. He remembers to refill the hummingbird feeder. He remembers the name of every horse in every Western ever produced in the history of cinema. But he forgets the portable X-ray unit. I have to do everything. Anyway, it’s time to locate the detonator.

Do you have a protective suit, honey? I bet you look so precious in a protective suit. It’s not patronizing—what does that even mean? Well, I suppose if you don’t have a protective suit, you can tape a bunch of throw pillows to your head and torso. I have about two dozen on that loveseat in the front room. I sure hope it’s enough. Let’s see if I can get a look at the battery on this thing. That reminds me: the TV remote needs new batteries. I’ll let your father know by shouting.

August is traditionally a month when many in the northern hemisphere go on a much needed holiday from the heat and enjoy a well-deserved break from work.

However, this will not stop our Pitch-burgh contest winners, who were incredibly excited about starting the work and demonstrating how an open source competition like this can deliver cost-effective benefits for the Drupal project.

For the boring part, most or all of the agreements are in place (with some still being signed this second week of August), and the initial grants are starting to arrive in the awardee’s bank accounts. As previously mentioned, this is a first for the Drupal Association, and it has taken some time to figure out important things regarding contracts and how money is moved. In the end, we want to make sure none of us get in trouble with the tax collector.

The simple argument that a junior doctor working in Scotland today is not worth 28.5 percent less than a junior doctor working in 2008 has powered the British Medical Association Scottish Junior Doctor’s Committee’s (SJDC) campaign to fully restore our pay after fifteen years of inaction.  Our campaign’s central motivation is to restore junior doctor […]

Declining Population Thru Lower Birth Rates Is GOOD, Mmmmkay?

Alright, let’s cover this again, with a bit more explication, since the idiots are really doubling down on “oh no, decreasing population.”

If you want to see it on a map, here goes:
